Understanding the Tier Rating System
The Tier rating system defines the level of infrastructure redundancy and availability in data centers. Tier I includes a single path for power and cooling without redundancy, offering 99.671% availability. Tier II introduces redundant components to the same single path setup, providing 99.741% availability. Tier III features multiple power and cooling distribution paths (though only one is active at a time), includes redundant components, and allows for concurrent maintenance, achieving 99.982% availability. Tier IV takes it further with fully fault-tolerant systems and multiple active distribution paths, offering 99.995% availability.
