Colocation NorthWest (Downtown Seattle)

Colocation Northwest (CNW) operates within the Westin Building in downtown Seattle, which serves as the Pacific Northwest's primary carrier-class interconnection facility and regional carrier hotel. CNW is one of the largest retail colocation providers in this building, with data centers on four floors totaling over 6,000 square feet of available space, including 4,000 sq. ft. of fully built-out whitespace. The location is strategically positioned adjacent to Amazon's headquarters and office towers, offering unparalleled connectivity and convenience for users who wish to access their hardware directly.

Power and Infrastructure Resilience

CNW provides a robust power infrastructure, with each of its data centers having a 1,200-kilowatt capacity, resulting in a Fully Built-Out Power of 1.2 MW for the total facility. This is supported by the Westin Building's existing infrastructure, including in-wall optical fiber and standby generators to ensure power during municipal outages. Additionally, CNW manages the electricity, provides uninterruptible power supply (UPS), and operates the necessary cooling systems. The facility also includes advanced safety measures such as pre-action fire suppression and smoke and heat detection, with remote monitoring from a network operations center 24 hours every day.

Connectivity and Network Backbone

The Westin Building hosts over 250 networks, carriers, and ISPs, making it one of the most connected buildings in the region. CNW maximizes this advantage by offering access to virtually every major carrier via its own copper and fiber cross-connect facilities, as well as interconnection through the Seattle Internet Exchange (SIX). Its Internet backbone is aggregated from multiple top Tier-1 and Tier-2 networks, and includes network-based route-optimization services to minimize latency and packet loss while maximizing availability. The facility features a Meet-Me-Room (MMR) and has 10 peering networks.

Security and Service Offerings

Security is paramount at the facility, which is equipped with CCTV surveillance, Card Access Control, and onsite security staff 24/7. CNW offers a variety of scalable colocation options to meet diverse needs, including Full Cabinets, Partial Cabinets, Shared Rackspace, Cages, and Suites Footprints. Users can scale their space and power up to 10 kilowatts per cabinet. Furthermore, clients can opt for managed services or Remote Hands to handle monitoring, maintenance, and repairs, allowing their administrators to focus on their core product. CNW has 10 tenants offering colocation services within the facility.

Ideal Use Case and Flexibility

The combination of scalable space, high power density (up to 10 kilowatts per cabinet), and the prime location within a major carrier hotel makes Colocation Northwest in downtown Seattle an ideal environment for housing private, hybrid, or multi-cloud infrastructure. Users have the flexibility of 24-hour access to their equipment or can utilize CNW’s contracts to manage their entire IT infrastructure. Additionally, the building offers roof rights for wireless P2P (Point-to-Point) connectivity.
