The 720 2nd Street data center is strategically positioned near Jack London Square in Oakland, California, within the fiber-rich district of the East Bay. This prime location offers close proximity to a PG&E substation, ensuring strong utility access for reliable power delivery. The facility benefits from being in a dense network ecosystem, enabling high-performance connectivity for both local and regional clients.
The data center occupies a robust four-story building encompassing 121,000 gross square feet, with approximately 50,000 square feet of raised floor space available for customer deployments. Designed to support high-density computing, the facility can deliver up to 15 kW per rack, translating to about 150 watts per square foot of raised floor. The data center is carrier-neutral and houses a Meet-Me-Room (MMR) for easy interconnection between providers and clients.
Engineered for resilience, the Oakland facility delivers 7.5 MW of fully built-out critical load capacity, with about 1.4 MW of critical IT power currently available. Power systems operate with N+1 UPS redundancy, ensuring continuous availability even during maintenance or component failure. The cooling systems are also built with N+1 redundancy, as is the standby power system, providing multiple layers of fault tolerance to support mission-critical applications.
Security is a top priority at 720 2nd Street. The facility features 24/7 onsite security staff, along with CCTV surveillance, biometric access controls, and card access control systems. These comprehensive measures ensure secure access for all tenants and protect valuable IT infrastructure.
Clients can choose from a variety of flexible deployment options including partial and full cabinets, Shared Rackspace, cages, suites, and footprints. The facility also offers remote hands services, allowing customers to manage equipment and resolve issues without the need for onsite presence.
720 2nd Street meets rigorous industry standards and holds a range of certifications including Tier III design, SOC 2 Type II, SOC 3 Type 2, PCI DSS compliance, and LEED Gold certification, reflecting a strong commitment to security, sustainability, and operational excellence.
The building has been operational since 2007 and consists of four floors, each capable of supporting a maximum floor load of 350 lbs per square foot. Roof access is available for antennae or other infrastructure requirements. The facility supports six peering networks, further enhancing its connectivity profile for enterprise and carrier clients alike.
