Rackspace Hosting (New York 1) Data Center

The data center maintains a high level of operational compliance and is actively pursuing top-tier certifications. It is currently Tier III Standard Compliant Certification Pending, indicating a very high level of redundancy and fault tolerance. Critically, it is a PCI Level 1 Service Provider Certified facility, meeting the highest standard for handling payment card data. Furthermore, it is SAS 70 Type II certified and HIPAA Compliant, demonstrating adherence to strict controls for financial reporting and protected health information.

The physical infrastructure spans a 56,600 square foot facility with 11,000 sq. ft. of fully built-out whitespace. The facility offers various physical hosting options, including Full Cabinets, Partial Cabinets, Shared Rackspace, Cages, and Footprints. Fire detection is handled by VESDA (Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus) systems, which monitor above and below the raised floor. Fire suppression is provided by an advanced multi-zone, double pre-action, dry pipe fire suppression system for superior equipment protection.

The network is designed for high availability and low latency. It provides direct connectivity to the Datapipe network and is a carrier-neutral facility leveraging multiple Tier 1 providers for maximum choice and redundancy. A dedicated dark fiber ring with diverse paths and full redundancy ensures network resilience. The facility also has direct fiber connectivity to the primary New York City POP (Point of Presence), and the network supports Fibre Channel, SONET, and Ethernet handoffs.

The HVAC system ensures a stable, controlled environment using Liebert CRAC units with an N+2 implementation for high redundancy. The operating temperature is maintained at a precise range of 72 ± 5 degrees Fahrenheit, with relative humidity kept between 40% 60% RH. The cooling strategy utilizes hot/cold aisles with hot aisle containment and a raised floor cold plenum supply with a ceiling warm return plenum to ensure uniform cooling distribution across the facility. The cooling redundancy is specified as N+1.5.

Security is a multi-layered, three-factor approach with 24/7 facility and network monitoring and an onsite 24/7 security staff who strictly enforce procedures. Physical access is controlled by multiple mantraps with reinforced walls, biometric access control, and card access control. Visitors are escorted by authorized personnel at all times. Surveillance includes 24-hour internal and external CCTV video surveillance with a 90-day minimum retention policy.

Power infrastructure is designed with extreme redundancy, utilizing an N+N implementation for all critical components. The facility is fed by redundant 13.2 kV feeds. The backup generation system is an N+N backup generator infrastructure with two contracted fuel suppliers on call 24/7. Power conditioning is managed by fully redundant Eaton Powerware UPS systems (N+N implementation), with a stated UPS redundancy of 2N. Power is distributed to racks via dual A+B circuit feeds (30 AMP, 208 VAC, N+N implementation), delivering a minimum of 150 kW per square foot. The total fully built-out power capacity is 2.7 MW.

Beyond PCI and HIPAA, the facility holds a comprehensive array of international and auditing certifications, underscoring its commitment to quality, security, and environmental management. These include ISO 27001 Certified (Information Security), ISO 9001 Certified (Quality Management), and ISO 14001 Certified (Environmental Management). Auditing compliance is confirmed by SSAE 18 Audited and SOC 1 Type II Certified, SOC 2 Type II Certified, and SOC 3 Type II Certified. The DSS PCI Certified designation further reinforces its payment security commitment.
