The Minneapolis EdgeConneX Edge Data Center (EDC) is a purpose-built facility designed specifically to optimize content delivery. By being precisely located at the "edge" of the network, the facility enables customers to deliver high bandwidth applications to local market consumers with the lowest possible latency. This strategic positioning ensures that both enterprise and consumer subscribers experience seamless performance.
As a carrier neutral facility, this data center partners directly with local network and cable operators. This collaboration guarantees the shortest and fastest routes for data, bypassing long-haul congestion. The facility currently supports five peering networks, providing a robust ecosystem for service providers to interconnect and optimize their traffic flow within the local market.
The facility spans a total building size of 32,738 square feet, with a fully built-out whitespace of 14,935 square feet. It offers highly flexible colocation options to meet diverse business needs, including full cabinets, partial cabinets, and shared rackspace. For larger requirements, the EDC provides build-to-suit cages and dedicated footprints, all supported by a professional raised-floor environment.
The Minneapolis EDC is engineered for high-density performance, featuring a fully built out power capacity of 2.5 MW. It can support demanding hardware with a maximum power density of 20 kW per rack or 0.6 kW per square foot. To ensure constant uptime, the power system is designed with N+1 UPS redundancy and N+1 standby power redundancy, meeting the rigorous standards of a Tier 3 facility.
To maintain the integrity of sensitive hardware, the facility utilizes an N+1 cooling redundancy configuration. This ensures that optimal temperatures are maintained even during equipment maintenance or localized failures. Furthermore, the center is equipped with advanced fire protection, featuring a pre-action, zoned dry-pipe sprinkler system with specialized maintenance aisles and separate suites to prevent accidental damage.
Security is a core pillar of the EdgeConneX design, incorporating a multi-layered approach that includes mantrap entries, CCTV surveillance, biometric access control, and card access systems. The facility adheres to the highest industry standards, boasting certifications for SOC 2 Type II, ISO27001, HIPAA, and PCI DSS, ensuring that data is handled with maximum integrity and privacy.
Beyond the technical infrastructure, the EDC provides 24/7 onsite technical staff and "Remote Hands" services to assist with immediate hardware needs. The facility is designed for professional productivity, offering available office space, facility-wide WiFi, and the convenience of a purpose built construction that prioritizes both machine efficiency and human accessibility.
