Nexcess (Nexcess Southfield) Data Center

The Southfield facility, operated by Nexcess, spans a total of 16,000 square feet, strategically divided into 12,000 square feet of dedicated data center floor and 4,000 square feet of office space. While a specific Tier number is not explicitly labeled, the infrastructure is engineered to meet Tier III standards through its "N+X" cooling and "N+1" power configurations, ensuring high availability and no single point of failure. The facility is fully SSAE-22, HIPAA, and Safe Harbor compliant, reflecting a professional environment designed to house over 4,000 servers for demanding enterprise clients.

The facility is powered by a robust DTE utility feed providing nearly 3 megawatts of total power, utilizing 4,000 amps at 480 volts. Power distribution is managed internally by Liebert and Eaton units, which are fed by dual Liebert UPS systems. This architecture allows for dynamic power allocation, offering customers flexible redundancy levels ranging from N+0 to N+2 depending on specific mission-critical requirements. For emergency backup, the site employs two primary and one redundant 750-kilowatt Generac diesel generators in an N+1 configuration, supported by ASCO closed-transition bypass isolation transfer switches.

To maintain optimal operating temperatures, the data center utilizes a cooling infrastructure configured in an N+X format, delivering 450 tons of availability via Liebert dry coolers. Data room cooling is specifically designed for N+1 redundancy on a per-room basis to ensure stable environmental conditions. While the facility utilizes Liebert units for air conditioning, the cooling distribution is focused on high-density efficiency. Based on standard Liebert PDU and dry-cooler setups, the facility is designed to support the airflow requirements of its 12,000 square feet of operational space.

Security is a primary focus, featuring 24/7/365 on-site staffing and comprehensive video surveillance covering the interior, exterior, and all entrances. Access is strictly controlled via electronic perimeter card systems and secured mantraps with interlocking doors to prevent tailgating. Beyond physical security, the site is remotely monitored by a third-party security company and maintains rigorous compliance standards, including PCI-DSS for financial data and HIPAA for healthcare information, ensuring a highly regulated and safe environment for sensitive hardware.

The network infrastructure utilizes industry-standard BGPv4 protocol to peer with multiple Tier 1 providers, ensuring maximum uptime and low-latency connectivity. Clients can take advantage of various service models, including the rental of full cabinets, partial cabinets, shared rackspace, or hosting for individual dedicated servers. To support these operations, Nexcess provides 24/7 Remote Hands assistance, environmental monitoring, and automatic fire suppression systems, allowing businesses to scale their IT footprint with professional on-site support.
