Kattare ensures high uptime by employing two distinct fiber providers, CenturyLink and Comcast Business, for its Internet connections. Critically, these fiber lines exit the datacenter using two physically diverse paths. This design is a key resiliency measure, significantly reducing the probability that localized physical damage to one fiber line could render the entire datacenter inaccessible.
For enhanced performance and resilience, Kattare connects with its upstream providers at three geographically diverse locations: Portland (Comcast), the Westin Building in Seattle, and One Willshire in Los Angeles. Connecting in these large, carrier-neutral data hotels ensures proximity to Tier 1 providers, which minimizes the number of hops and keeps latency low for improved performance. The geographic diversity is a critical resilience feature, as it allows Kattare to reroute traffic via its Los Angeles or Portland connections should providers in the Seattle area, for example, experience problems.
Kattare utilizes four upstream providers, enhancing performance by offering a diversity of paths to end-users. This multiplicity of routes increases the likelihood of finding the fastest path from the customer’s servers to a specific end-user. This is further optimized by the strategic selection of Tier 1 providers: the Verizon Business and AT&T lines efficiently service a significant number of mobile customers, while the Comcast line caters to users of one of the largest consumer ISPs in the country.
Kattare maintains strong network capacity by connecting to each upstream provider at a minimum rate of 500Mbps, with continuous reevaluation and bandwidth upgrades to meet demand. The facility offers 3,000 sq. ft. of fully built-out whitespace, supporting Full Cabinets, Partial Cabinets, and Shared Rackspace. Additional infrastructure services include Remote Hands, DSS PCI Compliance, and a Meet-Me-Room (MMR). The datacenter is a retrofitted facility, operational since 1997, designed as a sole-tenant deployment, with expandable whitespace capacity.
