FirstLight Fiber (FirstLight Williston VT) Data Center

The Williston, VT facility offers a robust 20,000 square foot environment designed to match the capabilities of major metropolitan data centers while remaining locally accessible. To ensure high availability, the site features A&B power feeds backed by separate UPS units, maintaining a Tier 2 design standard. Beyond the technical floor, the facility provides practical amenities for visiting staff, including meeting areas, a kitchen, a lounge, and free on premises WiFi. For logistics and maintenance, the site offers escorted access that allows for indoor unloading, protecting sensitive equipment from inclement weather.

This facility serves as a major connectivity hub, leveraging FirstLight’s extensive DWDM network to provide bulk transport options to key markets such as Boston and New York. The building houses FirstLight’s multi Gigabit IP backbone, which is peered with multiple Tier 1 providers and includes private peering for direct, high speed connections to high traffic sites. In addition, six other local fiber carriers maintain a presence in the building, giving clients a wide range of diverse data and voice circuit options to support strong global and regional reach.

The data center provides scalable colocation options to meet a variety of organizational needs, including half cabinets, full cabinets, and secure cage spaces. For larger deployments, unique 25 cabinet suites are available through special engineering. The hardware environment features 30 inch wide cabinets that offer additional working space and improved protection for Power Distribution Unit plugs. This fully built out whitespace is designed for expansion, allowing tenant environments to grow as business requirements evolve.

Security and operational control are central to the facility, supported by multi factor access policies and multi level security protocols. Power management is delivered through an all Raritan solution that enables remote PDU access, providing per outlet visibility into power usage and allowing administrators to perform remote reboots. Each rack supports a maximum power density of 6 kW, while out of band IP feeds and available crash carts ensure technicians can efficiently perform both local and remote troubleshooting.

In operation since 2011, the Williston facility is supported by a team of experienced facility engineers and network professionals who provide immediate technical assistance and rapid issue resolution. These Remote Hands services enable effective hardware management without requiring on site client presence. As a sole tenant construction type retrofitted for modern data requirements, the facility delivers a strong combination of long term operational reliability and responsive on site expertise.
