Brighton Digital Exchange (BDX) Data Center

The Brighton Digital Exchange BDX represents a major milestone in cooperative digital infrastructure, created to empower the local business community in Brighton. Established in July 2015, BDX operates as a neutral, member owned hub that emphasizes collaboration rather than traditional corporate competition. Through its dedicated data center, BDX enables businesses to colocate equipment and participate in peering, delivering a high performance network that keeps local data traffic efficient and cost effective.

The physical foundation of BDX is a carefully designed facility offering 270 square meters of fully built out whitespace. This flexible capacity supports a wide range of hardware deployments for organizations of all sizes. Members can choose from full cabinets for large scale server environments, partial cabinets for mid sized operations, or shared rackspace for smaller startups, allowing the infrastructure to grow in step with cooperative demand.

To maintain continuous operation around the clock, the BDX data center is engineered with resilient power and cooling systems. The facility incorporates UPS redundancy and a cooling architecture built to an N plus 1 standard. This approach ensures that if any single component fails, backup systems immediately take over, protecting equipment from overheating and maintaining uninterrupted service availability.

Security is a core priority within the BDX environment, supported by multiple layers of physical protection. Entry is controlled through secure card access combined with a mantrap system that prevents unauthorized access. Continuous CCTV monitoring safeguards the premises, while an FM200 automatic fire suppression system provides rapid fire control without causing harm to sensitive electronic hardware.

Connectivity is centered around the Meet Me Room MMR, where members and service providers interconnect directly. BDX delivers high speed data exchange through integration with a primary Internet Exchange Point and supports two separate peering networks. This architecture minimizes latency and lowers transit costs, reinforcing Brighton’s role as a highly connected and resilient digital economy.
