Equinix (LD5 Slough)

London remains one of the fastest growing and most vital data center markets globally. To meet this escalating demand, Equinix launched the LD5 International Business Exchange IBX facility in April 2010. This advanced facility provides 290625 square feet of gross space, effectively doubling Equinix’s footprint in the London market. At the time of its opening, it was the company’s second largest facility in Europe, exceeded only by the FR2 IBX data center in Frankfurt, Germany.

Targeted Industry Solutions

Located on the outskirts of London, LD5 was engineered to support high performance colocation and network exchange services. It primarily serves the demanding requirements of financial services organizations and cloud service providers. By offering a premium operational environment for these sectors, the facility helps ensure that the UK capital remains a competitive hub for digital infrastructure and rapid data processing.

Campus Integration and Connectivity

The LD5 facility is positioned on the same campus as the existing LD4 IBX data center. To support seamless client scalability, the two buildings are interconnected by more than 1000 diverse dark fiber links. This dense interconnection allows customers to expand across the campus with ease, enabling the direct exchange of business information between the two highly occupied facilities.

The Financial Ecosystem and LINX

The LD4 and LD5 campus forms a core component of Equinix’s Financial Services ecosystem, hosting a dynamic community of execution venues and market participants. Close physical proximity enables firms to reduce latency, accelerate execution speeds, and increase trading volumes. The campus also provides access to more than 35 carrier networks and the London Internet Exchange LINX, establishing it as a critical node for global peering and network traffic.

Power and Cooling Infrastructure

To deliver maximum operational uptime, the facility is built with strong electrical and mechanical redundancy. The electrical infrastructure operates on an N+2 redundancy model, while cooling systems are maintained at N+1 redundancy. With a total power capacity of 2.2 MW and an average power density of 6.0 kW per rack, the data center is well suited to support modern high density computing workloads while maintaining environmental stability.

Compliance Security and Amenities

LD5 maintains a comprehensive set of certifications, including ISO 27001 for information security, ISO 9001 for quality management, and PCI DSS for financial data protection. The facility also participates in the Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact. In addition to its technical capabilities, LD5 offers flexible space configurations ranging from shared rack environments to private cages and suites, supported by 172222 square feet of dedicated colocation space and staff amenities such as on site breakrooms.
