The EULC is designed for significant growth, featuring a total of seven 1,000 square meter halls. Currently, three halls are operational, with Hall 1 specifically dedicated to colocation clients. While the live power currently sits at 1MW per hall, the facility is engineered to scale up to 3MW per hall as demand increases. This provides a total fully built out whitespace of 7,000 square meters, ensuring that the facility can accommodate expanding enterprises without compromising on performance or space.
To maintain its always on status, the data center utilizes a highly resilient power architecture featuring 2N redundancy across all critical systems. It is serviced by dual National Grid power feeds and backed by on site generators with 48 hour fuel storage. The electrical path is protected by N+N mechanical UPS systems, ensuring that even in the event of a total grid failure, the transition to standby power is seamless and the integrity of client data remains undisturbed.
Climate management at the EULC is handled through sophisticated HVAC systems designed with 2N cooling redundancy. A standout feature of the facility is its ice storage backup system, which provides an extra layer of thermal stability. These systems ensure that hardware operates within optimal temperature ranges, while the blast hardened architecture of the building protects these sensitive mechanical systems from external physical threats.
Security at the Basildon site is comprehensive, featuring 24/7 CCTV monitoring and stringent access controls. For fire protection, the facility utilizes the Hi Fog water mist suppression system, which is locally activated by heat detection to minimize damage to electrical equipment. This is supplemented by Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus VESDA, providing the earliest possible warning of a potential fire event and ensuring the safety of both the infrastructure and the personnel on site.
The EULC offers a diverse range of housing options to suit different business scales, including full cabinets, partial cabinets, shared rackspace, and private suites or cages. Power densities are highly adaptable, ranging from micro colocation at 0.5 to 1kW and standard density at 4kW up to 9kW per rack for high density requirements. This flexibility allows financial institutions and service providers to tailor their physical footprint precisely to their hardware and power needs.
At the heart of the EULC is its connectivity ecosystem, featuring a dedicated Meet Me Room and diversified fiber routes to ICE London access centers. Clients can leverage the ICE Global Network and LCN LX for ultra low latency market access. Furthermore, the facility offers specialized timing solutions such as NPLTime and 24/7 remote hands maintenance, providing a full service environment where technical support is available around the clock to manage and troubleshoot hardware.
