The Coleraine Data Centre, operated by Prescient Data Centres, stands as Northern Ireland’s first purpose built, carrier neutral commercial facility. Located on the Atlantic Link Enterprise Campus adjacent to Ulster University, this site was specifically designed to empower the region’s growth in the digital economy. By providing a cost effective and secure environment, it serves as a vital bridge connecting local businesses with international providers of IT services, cloud solutions, and content delivery networks.

One of the facility’s premier advantages is its strategic proximity to the Hibernia transatlantic fiber landing station. This location enables ultra low latency networks stretching toward both North America and mainland Europe. As a carrier neutral hub with multiple providers on site and a dedicated Meet Me Room, the facility offers organizations a robust platform for global connectivity, ensuring that data travels the fastest routes possible between continents.

The facility spans a total building size of 45,000 square feet, with 21,000 square feet dedicated specifically to fully built out whitespace. The infrastructure is designed to be highly adaptable, offering everything from shared rackspace and partial cabinets to full cages and private suites. With a generous floor to ceiling height of 340 inches, the data centre provides an airy, scalable environment capable of supporting a wide range of hardware configurations and business footprints.

Designed to a Tier III plus level of resilience, the data centre delivers a total power capacity of 4.5 megawatts. It features a sophisticated 2N UPS redundancy system with battery backup to ensure continuous power during primary source fluctuations. Additional uptime assurance is provided through N plus 1 standby power using twin generators and on site fuel storage capable of sustaining three days of uninterrupted independent operation.

Efficiency is a core pillar of the Coleraine facility, which is recognized as one of the world’s most energy efficient data centres. The site supports high density deployments of up to 25 kilowatts per rack, managed by an N plus 1 configured cooling system. This maintains a consistent temperature of 24 degrees Celsius with a controlled tolerance at every IT rack, ensuring optimal thermal conditions for demanding compute workloads.

Security is delivered through a rigorous multi layered approach designed to protect sensitive data and infrastructure. The perimeter is secured by a three meter high anti climb fence, an eight meter sterile zone, and controlled vehicle access points. Entry is restricted via mantrap systems and card controlled access, supported by continuous on site security personnel and comprehensive CCTV monitoring. Internally, safety is reinforced through a double interlock mist fire suppression system combined with advanced fire detection technology.

Beyond the technical infrastructure, the data centre functions as a true operational base for IT teams. It offers dedicated office areas, hot desk facilities, and secure de box and build rooms for hardware staging. The site is staffed around the clock by technical and facilities specialists who provide Remote Hands support and assist with planned maintenance. To support extended working hours, the facility also includes always accessible kitchen and shower amenities, ensuring comfort for both personnel and critical systems.
