Raxio Data Centre operates as Uganda's first enterprise and carrier-grade facility, established in 2018 by First Brick Holdings (FBH), a company within the Roha Group. Roha is a US-based Greenfield investment company dedicated to building and developing new businesses across Africa, and FBH was specifically set up to build the foundation of the digital economy across Eastern and Southern Africa. This facility addresses the vast and growing need for secure and optimal data storage and processing capabilities, ensuring 100% uptime to support Uganda's accelerating digital transformation.
The data centre officially opened in 2021 and is the first of its kind in Uganda. It is the only Tier III certified facility in the country. Operating as both carrier-neutral and cloud-neutral, the facility allows multiple telecommunication carriers and cloud providers to interconnect freely. It operates within a sole-tenant tenancy type and was constructed as a purpose-built structure.
At full capacity, the facility is designed to house around 400 racks. The fully built-out whitespace (the area dedicated to IT equipment) covers 1,000 square meters. The fully built-out power capacity for the entire facility is 1.5 MW, with a maximum power provision of 20 kW per rack.
The Raxio Data Centre is designed and certified as a Tier 3 facility, which guarantees concurrent maintainability, meaning every component required to support the IT load can be shut down and maintained without impacting service. This is achieved through robust redundancy specifications: both the UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) and the Standby Power systems utilize an N+1 redundancy configuration, and the Cooling system is also configured for N+1 redundancy. The facility boasts an impressive Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.3.
The data centre provides a variety of customer footprints to meet different needs, including Full Cabinets, Partial Cabinets, Shared Rackspace, Cages, and Suites. Essential services like Remote Hands are also provided. For connectivity, the facility features a Meet-Me-Room (MMR) and supports 4 peering networks, allowing for efficient and diverse interconnection options.
Security is paramount and is ensured through multiple layers: a Fenced Perimeter, continuous CCTV surveillance, Biometric Access Control, and Card Access Control. Fire suppression utilizes an Automatic Firesupression system with a Gas suppression system that protects the data hall and all technical areas. The operational integrity is maintained by dedicated personnel, with both Onsite Security Staff and Onsite Technical Staff present 24/7.
