Ardent Data Centers (Ardent Boden)

In March 2021, Hydro66’s data center operations in Boden, Sweden were acquired by Northern Data AG, a German company specializing in high performance computing and AI infrastructure. Following the acquisition, the Boden facility was placed under Northern Data’s dedicated data center division, Ardent Data Centers. After selling its physical data center assets, the original Hydro66 Holdings Corp. transitioned into an investment focused business and rebranded as Sixty Six Capital Inc., which now trades under the ticker SIX on the Canadian Securities Exchange.

Evolution of the Boden Facility

The Boden data center’s original spine and branch architectural design proved to be significantly ahead of its time. Initially launched with a four megawatt footprint, the facility has been substantially expanded under Northern Data’s ownership. What began as a colocation and enterprise focused site, and later a major blockchain and cryptocurrency mining hub, has since been fully retrofitted to support advanced AI and high performance computing workloads. Today, the facility hosts dense clusters of NVIDIA H100 and H200 GPUs designed for large scale AI training and inference.

Strategic Role in Nordic AI Infrastructure

The Boden facility now serves as a key pillar of Northern Data’s broader Nordic infrastructure strategy. This approach leverages the region’s vast renewable energy resources, including access to up to four point five gigawatts of hydropower. These resources power Taiga Cloud, Northern Data’s generative AI platform. The facility continues to operate at a power usage effectiveness of 1.07, preserving the original efficiency targets established by Hydro66 and positioning the site among the most sustainable AI data centers globally.

Recent Corporate Shifts

The rapid global expansion of artificial intelligence adoption has driven further changes surrounding these assets. In late 2025, the social media platform Rumble announced an all stock acquisition of Northern Data, supported by Tether. This transaction included the Ardent Data Centers portfolio and the Boden facility. By early 2026, Northern Data began divesting its Peak Mining bitcoin operations, shifting its strategy toward becoming a pure play AI infrastructure provider. Within this transition, the Boden site has emerged as a flagship location for sustainable and scalable AI computing.

Then and Now Facility Comparison

When originally developed by Hydro66 around 2016, the Boden site functioned as a four megawatt colocation focused data center built around efficiency and sustainability. As of 2026, it operates under Northern Data’s Ardent Data Centers division as a core AI and high performance computing hub within an expanded eight hundred and fifty megawatt portfolio. While the primary workload has shifted from traditional servers and ASIC hardware to advanced NVIDIA GPU clusters, the facility has consistently maintained its industry leading power usage effectiveness of 1.07.
