Bluefjords AS Data Center

The BlueFjords datacenter is located in Luster Municipality, Western Norway, near the scenic Jostedal glacier and Sognefjord. Operational since 2014, it offers a range of services including rack for hire, colocation, whitespace, hosting, and housing. Its strategic location in a zoned area for datacenter facilities allows it to leverage abundant renewable hydropower. The surrounding region is supported by strong local infrastructure, including a harbor, fjords, an airport, educational institutions, and an international research center.

This purpose-built datacenter began with an initial operating capacity of 0.5 MW and is designed for easy scalability to 15 MW and over 3,000 square meters of white space. It supports various tenancy models such as sole-tenant, full cabinets, partial cabinets, shared rackspace, cages, and footprints, with a maximum power density of 12 kW per rack. The data hall features an iFortress room-in-room modular solution that enhances physical security and provides protection against fire, water, and radiation.

The facility is powered entirely by renewable hydropower, with more than 100 MW of surplus capacity in the region. It is located just 300 meters from the primary power plant and is additionally fed by three other plants, ensuring exceptional energy security. Power redundancy is rated at 2N+1, complemented by a generator, and the UPS/battery system is 2N. Advanced Eaton Power Xpert 9395P UPS systems with Energy Saver System (ESS) contribute to a low PuE of 1.1. Cooling is provided by ExCool technology—an indirect air-to-air system utilizing cool air from the nearby Jostedal glacier—with N+1 redundancy.

The datacenter features multi-layered physical security, including access control, alarm systems, 24/7 monitoring, camera surveillance, and electronic audit logs. The iFortress-built data hall is waterproof and fire safe, with a gas-based Nuvic fire extinguishing system installed in critical areas. Individual cabinet locking provides an additional layer of security.

The facility offers redundant fiber connectivity through separate conduits to central nodes, ensuring high network resilience. It is fully carrier-neutral and includes a double/crossed Meet-Me-Room (MMR), enabling customers to select or bring their preferred network provider. This robust connectivity supports various services, including remote hands, virtual servers, and individual server hosting.

BlueFjords meets international standards for quality and information security. It holds ISO 9001 certification for quality management systems and ISO/IEC 27001 certification for information security management systems, ensuring strong governance and operational reliability.

The datacenter offers Remote Hands services through local partners and benefits from its naturally cool climate, which enhances energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness. High-efficiency UPS systems with HotSync technology provide reliable load sharing and scalability. The facility’s power and cooling solutions exceed design targets and have demonstrated 100% availability.
