Open DC (JB1)
JB1 is a strategically located data centre in the heart of Johor Bahru City Centre, Malaysia, positioned only two kilometres from the main causeway connecting to Singapore. The facility is a significant hub for connectivity in the region, notably being home to DECIX Malaysia, the first DECIX Internet Exchange in South East Asia. It is operated by Open DC Sdn. Bhd., a subsidiary of Extreme Broadband Sdn. Bhd. and founded by Weng Yew Wong in 2017. Open DC is dedicated to enhancing Malaysia's internet speeds and data centre quality, focusing on sustainable modular design and management.
Facility Design & Capacity
The facility is currently housed in an ISO 9001:2000 certified building, spanning a current floor space of 3,000 square feet, which is expandable up to 21,000 square feet. The total building size is 18,580 sq.m. across 30 building floors. JB1 offers a comprehensive portfolio of services including Full Cabinets, Partial Cabinets, Shared Rackspace, Cages, and Suites Footprints to cater to a diverse clientele.
Power & Cooling Infrastructure
JB1 is designed with high redundancy to ensure continuous operation. The fully built-out power capacity is 20 MW. The critical infrastructure adheres to an N+1 redundancy model for the UPS, Cooling, and Standby Power systems. This design ensures that a backup component is available for immediate use in case of a failure in the primary system.
Security & Fire Protection
Security is a high priority at JB1, featuring comprehensive measures including a Mantrap Entry system, continuous CCTV surveillance, and 24/7 onsite security staff. For fire protection, the facility utilizes an Automatic Firesuppression system, specifically the FM200 suppression system, to protect sensitive equipment and ensure safety.
Connectivity & Interconnection
As a connectivity-rich environment, JB1 facilitates internet traffic exchange and offers services like low-cost co-location. A key feature is the presence of DECIX Malaysia. The facility includes a Meet-Me-Room (MMR) and connects with 14 peering networks, enabling robust and resilient interconnection services. Remote Hands services are also available for client support.
