Launched in 2011 by VERSIJA, VERnet DC is a data center in Riga, Latvia, complying with Tier II-III requirements. The 200 sq m facility houses up to 50 racks and offers flexible client placement options, ranging from single units to isolated facilities with personal access.
Facility History
The data center is located on the ground floor of a building founded in 1896 and designed by architect Paul Mandelstam. This floor was originally intended as a wine cellar, possessing robust features like vaulted stone ceilings, thick stonewalls, and a permanent microclimate, all of which were modernized for the data center's use.
Connectivity
VERnet DC connects to the VERnet backbone infrastructure via two independent optic-fiber links. It uses at least two independent international channels for traffic. Access within Latvia is provided by two independent connections to LIX (Latvian Internet eXchange) and SMILE, as well as direct peering with other Latvian providers.
Microclimate
The facility uses ventilation and air conditioning systems with an N+1 redundancy scheme. This setup permanently maintains the data center's temperature and humidity within specified standards, eliminating the risk of server downtime due to overheating.
Electric Power Supply
An N+1 modular UPS system from Newave SA prevents even brief interruptions in the power supply. If utility power is lost for more than 30 seconds, an SDMO diesel generator starts automatically to provide continuous power for as long as needed.
Security and Access Control
A certified security company provides 24/7 physical security. All visits to the data center are recorded, and a special admittance procedure eliminates the possibility of unauthorized physical access to customer hardware.
