Penta Infra (BER01) Data Center

Penta Infra's BER01 data center in Berlin is a premium, carrier-neutral colocation facility designed to meet the growing demands for security, resilience, and sustainability. As part of Penta Infra's expanding network of over 10 data centers across Europe, BER01 leverages the company's extensive experience to provide professional data center solutions. Located in Berlin, a major junction on the central European business axis and a hub for innovative startups, the facility is strategically positioned with excellent connectivity to all main fiber routes. The facility is a purpose-built Tier 3+ site, offering 1,800 square meters of IT space with a variety of colocation options, including half racks, full racks, cages, and dedicated rooms.

Penta BER01 is built with high availability and resilience in mind, featuring a fully built-out power capacity of 2.7 MW. The facility's power infrastructure is designed with 2N redundancy from the grid connection to the rack, ensuring an uninterrupted power supply. This includes a 2(N+1) UPS configuration with a 20-minute bridging time at full load, and on-site fuel stocking to provide at least 72 hours of autonomous operation at full load in the event of a complete power outage. The data center's Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) is 1.4 or lower at 75% load, demonstrating its energy efficiency.

The cooling system at BER01 is highly redundant to maintain optimal operating conditions for critical IT infrastructure. It features a N+1 configuration of Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC) units in each IT room and a 2N configuration of chillers that are shared across all rooms. This design ensures that the facility can continue to operate effectively even if a component fails. The data center utilizes cold containment and has temperature and humidity sensors in every rack, with a temperature range of 24-26°C and 30-60% relative humidity.

Penta BER01 is committed to environmental sustainability. The data center operates on 100% green energy and has a focus on increasing energy efficiency. Sustainability initiatives include the potential for heat reuse, where waste heat may be used for heating offices and general areas. The facility holds the TÜViT Trusted Site Infrastructure (TSI) V4.2 Level 3 enhanced certification and the ISO27001 certification, underscoring its commitment to high standards of quality, security, and operational excellence.

Security is a top priority at BER01, with multiple layers of protection to safeguard customer infrastructure. The facility employs a comprehensive security system that includes CCTV surveillance, intrusion detection systems, and security doors. There is a five-layer security protocol leading to the racks, and the site is fully fenced. Additionally, a dedicated onsite security staff is present 24/7, providing continuous surveillance and physical protection.

Penta BER01 is a carrier-neutral facility, providing customers with a wide range of network options. The data center is redundantly connected to all main fiber routes, benefiting from Berlin's excellent position on the West-East axis. It features redundant Meet-Me-Rooms (MMRs) and two points of entry for network providers. There are 8 network providers and 1 peering network available at the facility, ensuring diverse and high-quality connectivity.

In addition to its core offerings, Penta BER01 provides a variety of colocation solutions to fit diverse business needs, from partial racks to full cabinets, cages, and private suites up to 300 square meters. The facility is a purpose-built structure, with additional space on the plot for future expansion, including the development of a second building, BER02. The site offers a 99.999% availability SLA and provides build-to-suit options for customers with specific requirements.
