The Vip data center is built with a highly resilient electrical infrastructure to ensure continuous operation. This includes two independent medium voltage inputs and own substations. Power is distributed through low voltage wiring, and backup is provided by a generator station with diesel-electric generators. Critical redundancy is achieved with two independent Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems configured with 2N redundancy, meaning there are two entirely separate systems, each capable of handling the full load. The system also incorporates robust protection against electrical disturbances like overvoltage, undervoltage, interruptions, and voltage dips.
A sophisticated Central Supervisory and Control System oversees the entire facility. This system is responsible for the monitoring of relevant power supply metrics such as current, power, voltage, and power factor. Crucially, it provides control of the power equipment, including substations, generating stations, UPS systems, and distribution boxes. Beyond power, it also monitors environmental factors like humidity and air temperature, tracks the status of air conditioning units (chillers and air cabinets), and provides early detection of water leaks in the floor.
Environmental control is strictly maintained to ensure optimal performance and longevity of the ICT equipment. The air temperature is kept in the range of 18°C to 25°C, and humidity is maintained between 40% and 60%. The facility utilizes a specific hot and cold zone organization where chilled air is forcibly blown from the air cabinets through the floor gratings and into the IT cabinets, cooling the equipment. The heated exhaust air is then drawn back into the air cabinets and cooled, in a continuous cycle. The cooling system itself features N+1 redundancy in the air cabinets, providing a built-in backup component.
Comprehensive safety measures are in place for fire detection and suppression. The data center utilizes a classical fire alarm system complemented by a Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus (VESDA) for quick identification of potential fire events. The stable system for fire extinguishing employs Novec 1230 gas, which is an environmentally friendly and non-damaging agent to electronic equipment. Furthermore, the building incorporates rigorous construction standards with fire walls providing at least F-90 fire resistance for all load-bearing and partition elements.
Physical security operates around the clock to protect collocated equipment. Security protocols include 24/7/365 video surveillance, a robust access control system to limit entry to authorized personnel, and a layer of physical protection provided by onsite security staff. The facility has been operational since 2014 and is ISO 27001 Certified, affirming its commitment to information security management.
The co-location service allows companies to house their computer equipment within the Vipnet data center, offering an alternative to building and maintaining their own facilities. Space is highly flexible, available in various sizes from single Rack Units (U), a quarter or half of a cabinet, up to a whole cabinet. For equipment not adapted to standard cabinets, such as tower servers, specially designed compartments are provided. The nominal included power scales with the rented space, ranging from 120W for 1U up to 3,500W for a whole cabinet or over 30U. The facility provides 400 sq.m. of Fully Built-Out Whitespace and is a Tier 3 design.
Vip offers extensive network connectivity options. The co-location service includes shared broadband Internet access with a flat rate and a permanent public IP address; the capacity is 10 Mbps / 10 Mbps for partial rack rentals and 50 Mbps / 50 Mbps for quarter, half, or whole cabinets. Customers can also opt for guaranteed broadband Internet access or data connections via IP VPN or Ethernet networks for linkage to their other locations. The network is robust, featuring peering with the Croatian Internet eXchange (CIX), redundant Google Global Cache (GCC), a Facebook Network Appliance, and peering with the Microsoft CDN network. High-capacity connectivity in the Central and Eastern European (CEE) area is available through the Telecom Austria Group international backbone network.
