Datacenter Limited (DCL) has introduced a pioneering data centre in Balcatta, Western Australia, marking the country’s first large-scale containerised, carrier-neutral, co-location facility. Central to DCL’s innovation is the "Data Centre within a Data Centre" concept, realized through pre-fabricated ISO containers known as Modular Data Centres (MODs). These fully functional units arrive ready for deployment, enabling rapid, secure installation and operation of IT infrastructure. Each MOD operates either as an internal module or a standalone external facility, offering exceptional flexibility with a plug-and-play approach.

The modular design extends to power and cooling systems, allowing customers to tailor resilience and capacity down to individual racks. This ensures deployments are optimised for performance, cost-efficiency, and energy use. Power density varies by rack, with each MOD providing at least 90kW of cooling. The entire facility can scale cooling capacity from 500kW to 1000kW as needed.

Reliability is a key feature of the Balcatta facility, built with high-efficiency systems and full redundancy options ranging from N+1 to N+N. This includes redundant site power with dual A&B feeds, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), generators, water systems, and fire suppression infrastructure. Fire detection uses advanced VESDA systems and aspiration-based sensors featuring a double-knock trigger, supported by an inert gas flooding suppression solution.

The site operates on a carrier-neutral basis, offering access to multiple fibre networks and high-speed, uncontended internet connectivity. This network diversity guarantees fast, reliable data transfer, supported by strict Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and responsive technical support.

DCL accommodates diverse customer requirements with a wide range of colocation options, including full cabinets, partial cabinets, shared rackspace, cages, and private suites. The facility also provides Remote Hands support, expandable whitespace for growth, and a fully equipped Meet-Me-Room (MMR) to facilitate network interconnections.
