Previously known as Metronode Melbourne 1 and owned by Metronode, this data centre was acquired by Equinix in 2018 and subsequently renamed Equinix ME5. The facility is strategically located with rooftop access providing excellent line of sight to many of Melbourne’s high-rise buildings and surrounding areas.
The data centre features fully built-out whitespace of 2,500 sq.m., with options for full cabinets, partial cabinets, shared rackspace, and cages. It is designed to support high-power deployments with precision heating, cooling, and ventilation systems.
Equinix ME5 incorporates robust redundancy measures, including 2N UPS redundancy, N+1 standby power, and N+1 cooling redundancy. Cooling is provided by an air-cooled chiller plant with computer room air handlers into a raised floor, while standby power uses a block redundant plant room design.
Security and compliance are a top priority. The facility holds DSS PCI, ISO27001, SOC 1 Type II, and SOC 2 Type II certifications. Physical security includes 24/7 onsite staff, CCTV surveillance, card access control, and an automatic gaseous fire suppression system.
The data centre spans three floors with raised flooring, a breakroom, and adjacent parking. It connects to one Internet Exchange Point, five peering networks, and two network providers. Currently, one tenant offers colocation services within the facility.
